Is September a busy time in Agadir?

September lies at the tail end of the peak summer tourist season in Agadir, and while it remains quite busy, the crowds do begin to thin out compared to July and August. The pleasant temperatures draw visitors looking to avoid the hectic summer season while still benefitting from the city's enviable summer weather.

Agadir’s beachfront promenade is lively from early morning until late at night, with plenty of restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy some people-watching. If you're planning a trip to Agadir in September, it's a good idea to book your hotel or resort well in advance as they can fill up pretty quickly during this time.

Top tip: As September can be warm, I’d recommend finding an Agadir hotel with a swimming pool where you can relax if the beach gets too busy.

What’s on in Agadir in September

September tends to be a quiet month in Agadir when it comes to large-scale events, with no major festivities on the calendar. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t pop-up exhibitions and live music nights happening - you just have to keep an eye out for posters or ask the staff at your hotel/resort. Many of Agadir’s all-inclusive resorts host nightly entertainment, which is available to guests and those dining at their restaurants.

Best things to do in Agadir in September

Visiting Agadir in September is all about soaking up the sun at the beach and playing in the Atlantic Ocean, and honestly, who could blame you if you decided to stay there the entire time? You can rent an umbrella and lounge chair for a laid-back day on the sand or simply relax in a cabana by your resort’s pool.

As September is the tail end of summer, the ocean is the warmest it gets in this part of the world, although being the Atlantic, it’s not overly "tropical". If lounging all day isn’t your thing, you’ll find a bunch of exciting water sports available, from jet skiing to surfing lessons.

Agadir is just a stone's throw away from some of the finest surf spots in Morocco, with the best breaks located near the village of Taghazout, about a 30-minute drive north. During the summer months, the conditions are perfect for beginners and intermediates, as the winter swells have significantly diminished. To really up your surfing game, I suggest booking a stay at one of the surf camps or hostels in the area - you'll not only benefit from expert guidance but also be able to connect with fellow surfers.

For panoramic views of the coastline, ride the cable car to the Agadir Kasbah, a historic fortress that has been partially restored after enduring damage in the 1960 earthquake. If you're curious about what the city looked like prior to the disaster, a visit to the Memoire d’Agadir will transport you back in time with its beautiful recreation of the old medina. Agadir is also an important hub for Amazigh culture, and the Amazigh Heritage Museum is the perfect spot to immerse yourself in Morocco’s Indigenous traditions.

If you’re into golf, you’ll probably already know that Agadir is home to some of the finest golf courses (and golf resorts) in Morocco. While September can bring hot midday temperatures, teeing off in the early morning or late afternoon offers the perfect conditions. Notable courses in the city include Golf Les Dunes, Golf Du Soleil and Golf de l’Ocean. For those willing to drive a bit further north along the coast, Golf Tazegzout is a fantastic option as well.

Is September a good time to visit Agadir?

If you’re craving warm summer temperatures but without the summer crowds, September is a fantastic time to visit Agadir. As Morocco’s premier beach resort destination, it boasts a laid-back lifestyle that’s all about spending time on the sand and in the water - exactly what many people want from a late-summer vacation!

Not only does the weather remain hot and sunny in September but the Atlantic Ocean is at its warmest (around 23°C/73°F). It’s an ideal time for swimming, surfing and other water activities, and there’s slightly more room to move on the sand following the busy months of July and August. This also makes it easier to get reservations at Agadir’s most popular restaurants and secure accommodation without paying peak season rates.
