Is December a good time to visit Agadir? While the city doesn’t have the bustling energy and lively atmosphere of the peak summer months, December in Agadir brings its own unique charms. The weather remains mild and much warmer than European destinations further north - warm enough for comfortable sightseeing and even a dip in the ocean for the more intrepid. I also love the soft, low-angled winter light that bathes the city in a gorgeous glow!
Early December is Agadir’s off-season, with a laid-back vibe along the beachfront promenade and at many of the all-inclusive resorts. This is a great time to score accommodation deals before the uptick in visitors and prices around the Christmas and New Year holidays. It’s also worth mentioning that Agadir puts on a memorable fireworks display to ring in the New Year - something that you won’t experience in all Moroccan cities.

Agadir weather in December
December in Agadir sees relatively mild temperatures, with daytime highs around 22°C (72°F). While this might not be warm enough for some people seeking a beachside getaway, it will appeal to those who like things on the cooler side. In the evenings, temperatures drop to around 10°C (50°F), so I’d definitely recommend packing a jacket or sweater for venturing out at night.
While the Atlantic Ocean is starting to cool, with sea temperatures around 19°C (66°F), it’s definitely still warm enough for a dip. In terms of precipitation, you can expect around 30mm of rainfall across the month - I’d say you can get away without bringing a waterproof if you’re packing light. December in Agadir means predominantly sunny skies, ideal for strolling along the beachfront promenade and discovering the city’s cultural attractions.
Visiting Agadir in December

Is December a busy time in Agadir?
December is generally a quieter time of year to visit Agadir as the weather isn’t conducive to a classic beach vacation. As winter sets in, temperatures cool down from their summer highs and while still very pleasant, this is not peak beach weather. As a result, the number of people visiting the city tends to be lower than during the hot summer and early autumn months.
That being said, you’ll still find a considerable number of Europeans visiting Agadir in December, with most escaping the cold temperatures back home for some winter sunshine. The large resorts remain open but are less busy and the atmosphere around the beachfront is more low-key. The arrival of the Christmas/New Year holiday at the end of the month brings more visitors but it never really feels “crowded”.
What’s on in Agadir in December
New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve in Agadir is a significant celebration, with fireworks exploding above the beach at midnight. There’s a really festive atmosphere as families gather on the sand and along the beachfront promenade to ring in the New Year - the views from the Agadir Oufella are also incredible! Many tourists indulge in a multi-course dinner at one of the city’s waterfront restaurants - be sure to book in early if you want to do the same!

Best things to do in Agadir in December
I wouldn’t say December is an ideal month for lounging on Plage d’Agadir, but you may get the odd day when the mercury climbs high enough for swimming and sunbathing. It’s still a great month for participating in activities like jet skiing, parasailing and surfing, although you may need to wear a wetsuit if you’re spending a long time in the water.
For serious surfers, I'd suggest making the short drive north to Taghazout as December is one of the best months for surfing in Morocco. With the Atlantic swells ramping up, many of the breaks surrounding Taghazout and Tamraght are at their best - watching the locals in action when Anchor Point is pumping is a must!
Away from the coastline, you can take a leisurely stroll through Souk El Had, where you’ll discover stalls filled with traditional crafts, spices and one-of-a-kind souvenirs. If you you're into history (or amazing views!), hop on the cable car to the Agadir Kasbah, a historical fortress that has been restored following damage during the 1960 earthquake.
If you want to see what the city looked like prior to this natural disaster, the Memoire d’Agadir offers the chance to explore a recreation of the ancient medina - it's like taking a step back in time. Agadir is also a significant centre for Amazigh culture and I’d highly recommend visiting the Amazigh Heritage Museum to learn more. For a glimpse of contemporary Moroccan life, take time to walk around the Agadir Marina with its stylish shopping outlets and waterfront dining options.
If you're a birdwatching enthusiast, be sure to visit Souss-Massa National Park, a picturesque area filled with wetlands and woodlands that hosts over 300 bird species. With its cooler temps, December is also a fantastic time for a day trip to Paradise Valley, where you can hike beneath the palm trees and take a refreshing dip in one of the many swimming holes. If time allows, consider adding a visit to Taroudant, often referred to as the “Mini Marrakech”, to get a taste of the “Red City” before it became one of Morocco’s most popular tourist destinations.
For golf enthusiasts, Agadir boasts some of the best golf courses and resorts in Morocco and December provides the perfect conditions for a round of golf. Among the top courses in Agadir are Golf Les Dunes, Golf Du Soleil and Golf de l’Ocean, each offering a unique experience for golfers of all skill levels.

If you’re looking to escape the winter cold back home and craving a Moroccan coastal experience, then December can be a wonderful time to visit Agadir. The city doesn’t have the liveliness that it exudes in the busy summer months but the tranquility, mild temperatures and soft light will appeal to many travellers.
As this is Agadir’s off-season, the crowds are definitely light and you may be able to score some good deals on hotels and resorts at the start of the month. As Christmas and New Year approaches, there’s a noticeable increase in demand for accommodation and prices rise accordingly. If you are visiting Agadir in December, just remember to pack some warm clothes as the temperatures can be chilly at night.
